5 things to know this week in Milwaukee: Sept. 6 to Sept. 11

It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please email info@milwaukeenns.org and put “5 things” in the subject line by noon Thursday.

1. Deer District Market: Wednesday, Sept. 8

The Deer District Market, 1134 Vel R. Phillips Ave., will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The market features minority-owned businesses including Tatay’s Truck, Soul Brew Kombucha, Emmanuels Mix and more. The market is scheduled to occur weekly on Wednesdays through September.

2. Milwaukee Recreation “Fitness in the Park”: Wednesday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 11

Milwaukee Recreation is offering free outdoor yoga classes this fall. This week, there will be a class at Hawthorn Glen, 1130 N. 60th St., from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8 and at Wick Playfield, 4929 W. Vliet St., from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. Click here to register.

3. Bike rides with Red Bike and Green: Thursday, Sept. 9

Red Bike and Green-Milwaukee hosts monthly bike rides through Harambee. The group leads cyclists on a casual pace tour through the neighborhood. Interested individuals can meet at 5 Points Gallery & Studios, 3514 N. Port Washington Ave., at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9.

4. Café con Arte: Mauricio Ramirez exhibit: Friday, Sept. 10

Latino Arts is hosting Café con Arte featuring its new exhibit, “Mauricio Ramirez: Poly Wave – Seeds of Color and Shape.” The event will take place at Latino Arts, 1028 S. 9th St., from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10. It costs $5 to attend and comes with fresh churros and coffee.  

5. Silver City International Festival: Saturday, Sept. 11

VIA’s Silver City International Festival is back. The festival will take place at Arlington Heights Park, 3439 W. Pierce St., from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. The festival celebrates the cultural diversity of the Silver City neighborhood. There will be music, arts, food and more. Team NNS will also be making an appearance with our vintage orange couch to take more family-style photos.
