Boo!

Spooky season is upon us, and we want you and your family to have a happy and safe Halloween. We’ve compiled a list of trick-or-treat locations, other kid-friendly Halloween activities and some tips on staying safe while having fun.

Trick-or-treat times and locations

The official time for trick-or-treating in Milwaukee is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31. More information, including trick-or-treat tips for parents, guidance on organizing a trick-or-treat event in your neighborhood and general Halloween safety tips, can be found on the City of Milwaukee’s website.

Homes and businesses in the Harambee and Riverwest neighborhoods participating in trick-or-treating during this time should register their location by Friday, Oct. 29 using this form. This will help trick-or-treaters in the area find you. Trick-or-treaters can view the map here.

On Saturday, families can also trick-or-treat indoors at the Latino Family Expo and Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Augustine Preparatory Academy, located at 2607 S. 5th St. Register for free here.

On Sunday, kids can trick-or-treat and participate in a costume contest at Haunted Hoops, located at the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St. The Marquette University men’s basketball team will be scrimmaging during the event, and the costume contest will take place at halftime. Doors open at 9 a.m., and the event will continue until noon.

Costume contests and other kid-friendly Halloween activities

On Thursday, Battle Lounge is hosting a Halloween costume party for kids full of treat bags, pizza, video and board games, dancing games, contests and more. The party will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 5419 W. Lisbon Ave.

On Saturday, kids can participate in the Cholo and Chola costume contest for kids, located at 1225 S. Cesar E Chavez Dr. The contest runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Also on Saturday, families living in the Metcalfe Park neighborhood can join Metcalfe Park Community Bridges for a Halloween party with candy, park play and more. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the new Butterfly Park, 3701 W. Meinecke St.

Safety tips

  • When out trick-or-treating, especially at night, consider wearing highly-visible or bright-colored clothing. This helps cars see you crossing the street.
  • Note that while your costume may include a mask or face-covering, it is likely not as effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19 as a mask you would normally wear for that purpose. Trick-or-treaters, especially those who expect to spend time indoors, should consider wearing a mask designed to slow the spread of COVID-19 in addition to whatever mask or face-covering that may come with their costume.
  • Parents should consider inspecting candy before their children eat to ensure it is safe.
