It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please email info@milwaukeenns.org and put “5 things” in the subject line by noon Thursday.
1. Kujichagulia Open Mic: Monday, Dec. 27
Check out a night of creativity and fun, hosted by Brit Nicole and Ms. Lotus Fankh. Registration is free. Event begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27 at Sunstone Studios, 127 E. Wells St.
2. Ujamaa 2021: Wednesday, Dec. 29
Attend a night of entertainment, vendors, spoken word, a children’s area and more with Heal the Hood MKE and FitForYouMKE. The event will feature Marcell Jackson, Rashidah Butler Jackson and performances from youths from Running Rebels Community Organization. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 3020 W. Vliet St.
3. Volunteer Nights at DreamBikes: Thursday, Dec. 30
Volunteer your time and practice working with bikes this Thursday, and every Thursday, at DreamBikes. All tools are provided and no experience needed. Masks required. Volunteering runs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at 2021A N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
4. Free admission to the Milwaukee County Zoo: through Dec. 31
There is free admission to the zoo from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day this week through Friday, Dec. 31. The zoo is located at 10001 W. Bluemound Rd. Parking is still $15. Masking and physical distancing required inside buildings.
5. A conversation about unlocking the vote in Wisconsin: Tuesday, Dec. 28
EXPO, or Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing, presents a discussion on why it’s time to unlock the vote in Wisconsin from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Much Better Barbershop, 6119 W. Capitol Drive.
