It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Bronzeville Zoning Overlay Open House: Wednesday, June 22

An in-person open house to provide feedback on recommendations for building-design requirements in the Bronzeville Zoning Overlay takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 401 W. North Ave.. The overlay’s goal is “to make sure future development supports the growth of Bronzeville as a cultural and entertainment destination that highlights African-American arts and culture.” 

2. 2022-’24 Milwaukee Public Library Poet Laureate Inauguration Ceremony: Thursday, June 23

Mario “The Poet” Willis, the Milwaukee Public Library’s new poet laureate, will be inaugurated from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 at the Milwaukee Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave. More information here. Register here. The event will take place in the Richard E. and Lucille Krug Rare Books Room.

3. Free yoga sessions for young people ages 13 to 17: Thursday, June 23

The Walker’s Point Youth and Family Center is putting on free yoga sessions for young people ages 13 to 17 in Mitchell Park this Thursday and every Thursday through Aug. 25. Each session runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Mitchell Park, 524 S. Layton Blvd. More information here.

4. Shakespeare in Three Bridges Park: Friday, June 24 

The Summit Players Theatre, a statewide traveling theater group, brings Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” to Three Bridges Park from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at Three Bridges Park, located at 610 S. 35th St. More information here.

5. Dreamers of Wisconsin mentor program: Application deadline June 24

Dreamers of Wisconsin, a nonprofit organization supporting undocumented students, is looking for mentors and mentees for its mentorship program. The application deadline is Friday, June 24. More information and applications here. Reach out to dreamersofwisconsin@gmail.com with questions.
