1. Basketball Celebration: Saturday, July 8
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s Healthy County Challenge aims to encourage communal activities in the county’s parks. On Saturday, July 8 the Milwaukee Bucks Foundation, Colectivo Coffee and Milwaukee Parks Foundation partner to give youths the experience of a Junior NBA clinic with games and more. Bango from the Milwaukee Bucks, DJ Shawna and Rim Rockers will make appearances. The event begins at 10 a.m. at Atkinson Park, 936 W. Atkinson Ave. More information here.
2. The New State open mic: Saturday, July 8
New State is a nonprofit organization for artists in the community that gives them a platform to showcase skills and talent. It will be having an open mic night on Saturday, July 8 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 2616 W. State St. Message New State’s Instagram or send an email to newstatemke@gmail.com to sign up. 3. Community meeting on lead crisis: Saturday, July 8
The Get The Lead Out Coalition will gather at the Washington Park Library, 2121 N. Sherman Blvd., on Saturday, July 8 for a discussion about Milwaukee’s toxic lead pipes. The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Finney Community Room of the library. More information here.
4. Mommy and Me session: Saturday, July 8
Moms and children can relax with food, music and activities on Saturday, July 8. The event takes place at King Hall, 3413 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a fee of $5. More information here.
5. Meditation at Frida Fest: Sunday, July 9
MKE Yoga Social is hosting a meditation session during the fourth annual Frida Fest at Farmhouse Paint and Sip Bar and Cafe, 4511 S. 6th St. There will be two 20 minute sessions for $5 on Sunday, July 9 from 11 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Participants should bring their own yoga mat and register beforehand as space only holds up to 12 people.
