1. Camp Xhongo Fundraiser: Saturday, July 29

Come to Coffee Makes You Black, 2803 N. Teutonia Ave., for a fundraiser on Saturday, July 29 in support of the 27th annual Jaha Workshop’s Father and Son Retreat, which is a camping trip that boys and men take to Camp Xhongo in rural Wisconsin. The fundraiser event will be a night of fun and entertainment from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. General admission is $15 and individuals can feel free to make donations to help fund the camping trip. 2. Hip-hop Chess: Saturday, July 29

Your Move MKE Hip-Hop Chess Club is teaching children ages 10 to 12 how to implement hip-hop into playing chess on Saturday, July 29 at the Milwaukee Public Library Mitchell Street Branch, 906 W. 3. Block Party: Saturday, July 29

Come celebrate Spinn MKE’s one-year anniversary with a block party on Saturday, July 29 from noon to 5 p.m. The event will take place at  309 W. Brown St. and there you will see vendors, enjoy entertainment, hear guest speakers and more. Outdoor classes, including yoga and dance, will also be held. It will be $15 to participate in the classes. However, the event is generally free and open to the public. More information here.

Come help us celebrate our 12th anniversary during an “eat-and-greet” from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 on the first floor of Johnston Hall, 1131 W. Wisconsin Ave., on Marquette University’s campus. Have some cake and meet the NNS team. RSVP requested. Please RSVP by Aug. 7!

4. Urban Forage Ride: Sunday, July 30

Kwame Nsoroma of Red Bike and Green will guide bike riders on a biking expedition on Sunday, July 30 to discover various plant life such as hood flora, herbs and edible plants. Meet at the Walnut Way Conservation Corporation, 2240 N. 17th St., at noon. The ride starts at 12:30 p.m. More information here.

5. Hope and Faith Fest: Sunday, July 30

Milwaukee Dream Center is hosting Hope and Faith Fest, where free backpacks and school supplies will be given out from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 30 at Atmosphere Church, 929 S. 37th St. In-person registration is from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. More information here.
