1. Voting Rights Act of 1965 Celebration: Saturday, Aug. 5
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 granted African Americans the right to vote without facing discriminatory barriers. Join a national broadcast celebrating the 58th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 on Saturday, Aug. 5 beginning at noon at 3000 N. Sherman Blvd. This free event is a chance for you to meet and connect with civil rights leaders, community activists, and others. More information here.
2. Caribbean and Latin American Festival: Saturday, August 5
El Conquistador Latino Newspaper is hosting a festival full of contests, entertainment and vendors to celebrate countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. The event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 5 on South Fourth Street from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. More information here.
3. ApeMode Back to School: Saturday, Aug. 5
ApeMode Apparel, a clothing brand in Milwaukee, is hosting its first back to school giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 5 at Roosevelt Middle School, 800 W. Walnut St. Free school supplies and ApeMode backpacks will be given to children. Food and other fun activities will contribute to this event, which runs from noon to 3 p.m. More information here.

4. Amani Bike Trail Informational Session: Saturday, Aug. 5
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, Amani United will have its bike trail informational session, featuring a discussion of an anticipated bike trail, housing resources, and other updates in the neighborhood. This session takes place at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center St. More information here.
5.”Shakespeare in the Park”: Saturday, Aug. 5
Top your summer off by attending “Shakespeare in the Park,” being held by Optimist Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Forest Home Cemetery, 2405 W. Forest Home Ave. Actors will bring Shakespeare’s stellar works to life. Feel free to bring a chair to watch the performances at 5 p.m. More information here.
