1. Mexican Fiesta: Friday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 27
The 50th anniversary of Mexican Fiesta takes place this weekend from noon to midnight Friday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 27 at Henry W. Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Drive. More information here.
2. Hampton Heights Festival: Saturday, Aug. 26
The Hampton Heights neighborhood will come together during a festival on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon Lutheran Church, 4809 N. 60th St. More information here.
3. Brown, Black + Brews: Saturday, Aug. 26
Brown, Black + Brews is back and will take place on Aug. 26 at 1128 N. 9th St. The event will feature sampling from regional Brown- and Black-owned breweries, including Funkytown, Moor’s Brewing Company, Casa Humilde Cerveceria, 18th Street Brewery, CAC Brewing, Torzala Brewing and Vennture Brewing, as well as Milwaukee’s own Soul Brew Kombucha. HYFIN’s Tarik Moody will be DJing at the event and HYFIN will also host a pop-up shop of its community partners selling items. VIP and general admission tickets for “Brown, Black & Brews: The Fifth Ingredient” are available for purchase at brownblackbrews.funraise.org. General admission sampling will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
4. Free Back-to-School Services: Sunday, Aug. 27
Jelly Sosa’s Hair Bakery is having a back-to-school self-care event for students under 16 to receive free haircuts, manicures, school supplies and more on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 1123 W. Oklahoma Ave. More information here.
5. Black August bicycle ride: Sunday, Aug. 27
A Black August bicycle ride will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Rose Park, 3045 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, “in honor of political prisoners, activists, and fallen comrades.” Meet at 1:30 p.m. to begin ride at 2 p.m. More information here.
