1. Crime and Safety Meeting: Monday, Jan. 8

A crime and safety meeting will be held by Milwaukee Police Department District 7 from      5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8 at 4129 W. Villard Ave. Attendees will be updated on crime statistics, traffic stops and other topics. More information here.

2. Youth Culture Class: Tuesday, Jan. 9

The Youth Empowerment Program invites Native American youths ages 7 to 18 to attend a storytelling class from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, 930 W. Historic Mitchell St. Elders from the Menominee and Ho-Chunk nations will share traditional stories. Refreshments will also be served. 3. Food for Thought Poetry Night: Tuesday, Jan. 9

Attend a poetry open mic night on Tuesdays at Mi Casa Su Cafe, 1835 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan 9. Tickets are $5, and seating is first come, first served. The event will feature open mic, poets, local vendors, soul food and more. Performing artists will need to sign up upon arrival. 4. Classic Movie Club: Tuesday, Jan. 9

Spend your Tuesday afternoons for the next month, viewing a movie at the Milwaukee Public Library Zablocki Branch, 3501 W. Oklahoma Ave. The film, “The Princess and the Pirate” will be presented from  12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Refreshments will be provided. More information here.

5. Community Engagement Session for Parents and Students: Wednesday, Jan. 10

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is hosting a community engagement session from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10 to hear from parents and community members about what they believe is best for students when it comes to public schools and libraries. The session will be held at the Milwaukee Public Schools Central Services, 5225 W. Vliet St. Click here to register. More information here.
