It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Bi Movie Night: Friday, June 14 

Bi+ Pride Milwaukee invites you to its “Bi Movie Night,” which honors bisexuals and pansexuals in film. The event will feature the movie “Pride” and will begin at  6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, 315 W. Court St. More information here.

2. Sixteenth Street Bike Day: Saturday, June 15

Local businesses and organizations have partnered with the Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers to host the 13th annual Bike Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at Kosciuszko Park, 2201 S. Seventh St. Hundreds of free bikes, helmets and locks will be given to children under 18. Bike repairs and safety demonstrations will also be offered. More information here. 

3. Kappa Kookout: Saturday, June 15 

The Milwaukee (WI) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will host a cookout from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at McGovern Park, 5400 N. 51st Blvd. There will be free food and live entertainment for all. More information here. 

4. Brushstrokes on Bridges: Friday, June 14

Join Menomonee Valley Partners in its efforts to beautify the South 11th Street bridge over the Burnham Canal. Volunteers can register to paint a mural from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at 470 S. 11th St. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and anyone under 18 must have a chaperone. 5. Community Carnival: Saturday, June 15

Heal Our City, God Inside Out Ministries will host a community carnival for families from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at 4108 N. 51st Blvd. Unlimited game play wristbands can be purchased for $5 and food tickets are 75 cents each. Festivities will include a bounce maze, dunk tank and more. More information here. 

Bonus: Civics Black Hogwarts: Application deadline, Monday, June 24

Leaders Igniting Transformation, or LIT, is looking for passionate young people in Milwaukee to join its Civics Black Hogwarts program, a summer leadership development institute that trains young activists and organizers to be the next leaders in LIT and in the community. The program will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning July 15 and will end on July 26. Applications close on Monday, June 24. More information here.
