2. Get involved

There are ways to lend a helping hand for the election like becoming a poll worker on Election Day. If you are interested, click here to view requirements, fill out a form and send a request to a municipal clerk.

Door-to-door canvassing is being led by community organizations like Souls to the Polls and the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin.

Be sure to visit each group’s website to register and receive information on training.

3. Get registered

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5. To check if you’re registered to vote, visit MyVote.WI.gov. If you are not registered, you can register online or by mail until Oct. 16. Proof of residence is required.

Other ways to register is by participating in early in-person voting, beginning  Oct. 22 through Nov. 3, or by registering at the polls on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Be sure to have a government-issued ID with you.

4. Get ready

Make sure you have an acceptable form of ID before Election Day. If you do not have any of these accepted documents, you can get a Wisconsin ID card at the DMV.

Acceptable forms of ID include a Wisconsin driver’s license, a Wisconsin identification card, a military ID issued by U.S. Uniformed Services or a passport or passport card. Other forms of ID are also acceptable but should be verified before your deadline.

5. Get to the polls

Most people might be voting on Nov. 5, but there is more than just one voting process. Know what deadlines apply to you if you’re voting early or by absentee ballot. Make sure you follow the tips above and check out these tips for voting on Election Day from the City of Milwaukee.
