Feeling less active this winter?
You’re not alone – over half of Americans report lower levels of physical activity during the winter, according to a survey conducted by the National Recreation and Park Association.
Staying active during colder months might seem a struggle, but it doesn’t always have to cost money.
Here are some free resources in Milwaukee for winter exercise.
Milwaukee Turners offers free weekly yoga classes, including options for those over 50 years old:
Mondays, noon-1 p.m.
- Free yoga and Zumba (50+) at the Clinton Rose Senior Center, 3045 N. Martin Luther King Drive
Mondays, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Free yoga and tai chi at Clarke Square Park, 2330 W. Vieau Place
Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-noon
- Free yoga at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1531 W. Vliet St.
Thursdays, 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
- Free yoga (50+) at Turner Hall, 1040 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave.
Fridays, 10 a.m.-11 a.m.
- Free yoga at Turner Hall, 1040 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave.
Milwaukee Recreation has several free winter activities, including floating yoga, swimming, strength training and more. A guide to free and paid activities is available.
For those interested in swimming activities, Milwaukee Recreation also provides new or gently used swimsuits and trunks at no cost to participants. See this link for more information.
Registration for Milwaukee Recreation activities is required and can be completed online at mkerec.net or in person at either the Milwaukee Recreation Central Office, 5225 W. Vliet St., or the Citywide Programs Office, 2414 W. Mitchell St.
