It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Community Appreciation Celebration: Friday, Aug. 8

Progressive Community Health Centers is hosting a Community Appreciation Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8 at 3522 W. Lisbon Ave. Attendees can experience face painting, hip-hop aerobics, get free books and join other activities. More information here.

2. Milwaukee Area Coffee Connection: Friday, Aug. 8

The Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce wants to connect with local business owners and professionals from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8 at Style Pop Cafe, 934 S. Fifth St. Coffee and pastries will be served. Registration is required. More information here.

3. Milwaukee Makers Market Day: Saturday, Aug. 9

Over 20 local businesses will be present at Zócalo Food Park, 636 S. Sixth St., to celebrate Milwaukee Makers Market Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. The celebration features live music and food trucks. More information here.

4. Summer Sizzle Martin Drive Picnic: Saturday, Aug. 9

The Martin Drive Neighborhood Association is hosting its 15th annual potluck picnic from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1335 N. 46th St. Attendees are welcome to bring a dish and lawn chair. There will be games, face painting and music. Registration is required. More information here. 

5. Red Magic Art Festival: Sunday, Aug. 10

Celebrate Indigenous art, culture and community during the Red Magic Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 in Jackson Park, South 35th Street and West Forest Home Avenue. Native vendors and artists will be present. Community members of all ages are welcome to free entertainment and food.
