By Sister MacCanon Brown

Many caring friends and donors helped the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary bring joy to the Amani neighborhood on Sunday, July 27 at 2461 W. Center St.
United in Oneness, our wonderfully diverse leadership team created a welcoming spirit for the children, teens and families attending our 5th Annual MAKE SUMMER FUN Toy Giveaway event.
Kids received toys, bikes, bears, kites, hula hoops, bubbles, basketballs, bikes, and more. The selection was designed to encourage positive outdoor activities in the nice weather in a neighborhood challenged by violence and other trauma.
We distributed more than 100 bikes and trikes.
We served 200 guests a delicious warm meal prepared by Lily Bells Is Fine Dining Cafe & Food Truck.
Our petting farm had piglets and chicks, for children to enjoy, brought by our friends Charlie and Nancy from Beaver Dam.
While participants gathered at Faith Temple to wait for their numbers to be called to go across to the Sanctuary, music was provided by professional musicians including guitarist John Zaffiro, Jim Yorgan on bass and drummer Victor Campbell.
And as always, the dedicated team of MBHS volunteers and staff did a wonderful job coordinating and assisting everyone, including volunteers from several partnering congregations and parishes.
All of this made possible an opportunity to demonstrate caring and kindness for all the children and teens who came.
