UNCF Milwaukee Walk For Education

Hundreds of Milwaukee area residents who believe in the power of education helped light the way for local students at the 41st annual UNCF MKE Walk for Education at Veterans Park, August 2, 2025. The UNCF event raises funds to provide scholarships for local students attending college.

More than 500 individuals and 28 teams helped UNCF close in on its $125,000 fundraising goal. Donations can still be made at the UNCF website – uncf.org/Milwaukeewalk.

“We are thankful for all of the walkers, runners, corporate sponsors, and individual donors whose generosity and time made the UNCF MKE Walk for Education such a success,” said UNCF Development Director Latina Brooks. “We also want to acknowledge our Grand Champion and Grand Marshals whose dedication and enthusiasm sparked interested and support for this great event and give a special shout out to all of our volunteers.”

Rockwell Automation is the recipient of the UNCF MKE Walk for Education Scholar Impact Award. The Corporate Team Award was presented to Northwestern Mutual. The Community Team Award went to Team Alpha. Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church received the Faith Based Team Award.

Top teams for fundraising include Team Northwestern Mutual!, Team Books & Badges from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department, and Brewers Community Foundation/Brew Crew. The top three leading companies are Northwestern Mutual, Brewers Community Foundation and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball, Frankie Jupiter of CBS58 News, and Rockwell Automation’s Isaac Woods led individual participant fundraising. A full list can be found on the UNCF website.

The Grand Champion of the event was former Wisconsin Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes. Grand Marshals include Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball; Grady Crosby, Northwestern Mutual Chief Sustainability and Impact Officer; Milwaukee County Executive David Crawley; Rodrick Cureton, Milwaukee Bucks Manager Impact and Culture: Cecelia Gore, Executive Director Brewers Community Foundation; Diana Gutierrez, WISN12 News Anchor; Nina Johnson, U.S. Bank Vice President Wisconsin Branch Banking Market Leader; Frankie Jupiter, CBS58 Morning News Anchor; Gerron Jordan, WISN12 News Anchor; and Dr. Demond Means, Wauwatosa School District Superintendent.

Torchbearers who helped Light the Way to Education are Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johson; UNCF Milwaukee Walk for Education Grand Champion Mandela Barners; Academic Dean, Seaton Catholic Schools Bryan Johnson; Rockwell Automation vice president, treasurer, and executive officer Isaac Woods; the executive leadership of Black Girls Run; national radio host, philanthropist, and community advocate DeDe McQuire; and Don Black, Jammin’ 98.3.
