Sojourner, the largest non-profit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention in Wisconsin, was recently recognized for 50 years of service to the Milwaukee community. Over the past five decades, the organization has helped more than 500,000 women, children and men affected by domestic violence.

To honor this significant milestone, Sojourner’s annual Be the Light gala was a special 50th anniversary celebration. The sold-out event hosted more than 500 guests at the Baird Center on Friday evening.

“Sojourner is much more than a shelter. It’s a place where people can go to escape violence while building a new life filled with hope and healing,” said Carmen Pitre, President and CEO of Sojourner. “We walk alongside survivors to provide safety, support and empowerment throughout the healing journey. Our goal is to save lives while creating stronger, safer communities.”

The mission of Sojourner is to transform lives impacted by domestic violence. The organization provides crisis housing, system advocacy and individual support. Sojourner is the most comprehensive provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving nearly 10,000 clients each year. The organization’s primary goals are to ensure the safety of victims of family violence and creating communities where people live peacefully.
