It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. GWML and Genisx with Donna Renee: Friday, Oct. 24

Grace Weber’s Music Lab invites young adults ages 18 to 29 to a session that will honor National Depression Education and Awareness Month with special guest Donna Renee. Teens 13 to 18 will have the chance to perform in an open mic and meet Grace Weber’s Music Lab alum. The open mic session is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 at 158 S. 2. Our Dollars, Our Vote: Saturday, Oct. 25

Residents are invited to an interactive session led by the African-American Roundtable from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Milwaukee Public Library Martin Luther King Branch, 2901 N. Martin Luther King Drive. You will learn about the $600,000 participatory budget and discuss how it can be used for the community. Click here to register. More information here


3. Milwaukee VA Medication Take Back Day: Saturday, Oct. 25

The Clement J. Zablocki Veterans’ Administration Medical Center encourages you to participate in its medication take back day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 5000 W. National Ave. You will dispose of expired or unused medications. More information here.

4. Education Fair Latino Family Expo: Sunday, Oct. 26

El Conquistador newspaper will host an education fair for families and educators to meet representatives from colleges, trade schools, universities and the military. The fair is from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at South Division High School, 1515 W. Lapham Blvd. More information here.  

5. Sundaes on Sunday: Sunday, Oct. 26

The Milwaukee Police Department partners with Sentry Foods and Cedar Crest Ice Cream each month to give away free sundaes to community members and hear feedback from them regarding important issues. The next gathering will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at the Sentry Foods store at 7101 W. Lisbon Ave. More information here.
