It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. VIA’s Annual Gathering: Saturday, Dec. 6

VIA Community Development Corp. will have its annual gathering from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3524 W. National Ave. The gathering will feature an open house, breakfast, networking opportunities, a sneak peak of the new townhome development plan and other activities. Click here to register. 2. Holijoy Market: Saturday, Dec. 6

All are welcome to the second annual Holijoy Market. The event is being hosted by Fruition MKE from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 819 N. 27th. You will have the chance to buy crafts and other goods from local artists and makers, listen to music and enjoy food specials. More information here.

3. Unpacking Democracy and Human Rights: Saturday, Dec. 6

The Equal Rights Commission invites community members to its eighth annual International Human Rights Day event. Speakers and panelists will talk about immigration rights, LGBTQ+ equity, civil rights awareness and other topics on which you can share your perspective. The dialogue is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St. Registration is required. More information here.

4. Holiday Open House: Saturday, Dec. 6

La Familia de Arte is hosting a holiday open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1300 S. Layton Blvd. Families can enjoy the festivities by looking at ceramic pieces by artists and purchasing gifts. Parking is available at South 26th and West Scott streets. More information here.

5. Companionship Workshop: Saturday, Dec. 6

The Aurora Health Care 53215 Alive Drug-Free Coalition is partnering with local organizations to host a companionship workshop that will give participants the opportunity to encourage each other through five basic spiritual practices. The workshop is from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Kosciuszko Community Center, 2201 S. Seventh St. Participants will receive a certificate of completion afterward. Food will be provided and you must register by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. More information here.
