Tiffany Miller, owner of Fruition MKE, received a disheartening call early on the morning of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

She learned her cafe had been broken into and burglarized for the second time in six months.

“It’s just annoying and heartbreaking,” Miller said.

But, she said, aside from the cashbox and a door she will replace soon, the damage was limited.

“I’m grateful that the only thing taken was the cashbox,” Miller said.

Fruition MKE

Fruition MKE, a Black-owned business, has become a creative hub in the Concordia neighborhood. Located at 819 N. 27th St. inside the Concordia 27 building, it’s Milwaukee’s only cafe that also functions as a co-working and creative makerspace.

Open for 18 months, the cafe hosts community events and other opportunities to connect for creatives and entrepreneurs in the city.

In response to the burglary, Miller announced that Fruition MKE will be a fully cashless operation moving forward.

“My heart just can’t,” she said in a social media post. “We will be 100% cashless with a very big sign on the front door.”

How you can help

Despite her frustration, Miller expressed gratitude for the support she’s received from the community and asked that people continue to help if they can.

She said if you’d like to help financially, you can Cash App and Venmo tiffpoet.

Otherwise, she asks that people amplify the good happening at Fruition MKE, follow and share their social media accounts, and just send good energy.

Miller said she remains hopeful despite a difficult morning.

“May some joy come today for us all,” she said.
