Discovery World is proud to host its upcoming Girls & STEM event on Sunday, March 1, a hands-on, high-energy day designed to encourage young women across Wisconsin to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Girls & STEM invites girls and young women from throughout the region to roll up their sleeves and dive into real experiments, creative challenges, and conversations with professionals working in STEM fields right here in our community. The goal is to help participants see what is possible and remind them that these careers are within reach.
“Milwaukee’s future depends on the talent and creativity of our young people,” said Shannon Atwood, Discovery World’s Vice President of Exhibits and Experiences. “Girls & STEM gives kids and families the chance to try something new, ask questions, and connect with local women who have built careers in STEM fields. This event makes a lasting impact for our guests and community partners.”
This year’s event brings together an impressive group of partners from across Milwaukee’s corporate, nonprofit, education, and cultural sectors. Participants will be able to explore everything from robotics and coding to water filtration, conservation, manufacturing, forensics, engineering, and design.
With interactive stations led by local companies, universities, and community organizations, girls will see firsthand how STEM shows up in everyday life and in careers they may not have considered before. The variety of exhibitors highlights the strength of Milwaukee’s STEM community and reinforces that there are many different paths into these growing fields.
STEM careers continue to expand across Wisconsin and the country, yet women are still underrepresented in many of these industries. Events like Girls & STEM are an important step toward changing that by building confidence early, creating access to mentors, and making STEM approachable and engaging.
For families, educators, and community leaders, this event represents more than a single day at the museum. It is an investment in Milwaukee’s future workforce and in the young women who will help shape it. Through programs like Girls & STEM, Discovery World remains committed to inspiring lifelong learning and supporting opportunities for all.
Girls & STEM will take place at Discovery World on Milwaukee’s lakefront on Sunday, March 1. For more information and registration details, visit discoveryworld.org.
