The Milwaukee community will come together for the 5th year on May 16th at District Fore to raise awareness and support for ocular melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer, at the annual Stef’s Vision Ocular Melanoma Awareness Walk.
The walk will take place in May during Ocular Melanoma Awareness Month and aims to bring together families, friends, and supporters to raise funds for research while honoring those affected by the disease.
Stef’s Vision [501C3] was founded by friends and local Milwaukeens in honor of Stefanie Dorner, who has been courageously battling stage 4 metastatic ocular melanoma. Stef was diagnosed in March 2020, in early 2025 it progressed to stage 4 with no cure only treatment. What began as a community rally around one person’s fight has grown into a movement dedicated to spreading awareness and helping fund research for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
“Ocular melanoma is a rare cancer that many people have never heard of until it affects someone they love,” organizers said. “Through this walk, we are bringing the community together to give hope for this disease and support the critical research needed to save lives.”
Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend the walk, which will include fundraising, food/drink, opportunities to learn about ocular melanoma, and ways to support ongoing research efforts.
Funds raised from the event will go toward advancing research and supporting efforts to find better treatment options for patients facing ocular melanoma.
Community members can register, donate, or learn more about the event online. Early registration is encouraged, with the deadline for event shirts and swag approaching on May 1.
The organizers hope the walk will not only raise funds to find a cure but also help spread awareness about ocular melanoma and the importance of early detection.
