MILWAUKEE, WI, – Hundreds of individuals and businesses will come together online between March 1-8 for the 11th annual Empowerment Challenge. This online fundraising event raises money for The Cathedral Center (CCI), a nonprofit organization that provides vital transformative services to women and families experiencing homelessness and offers a week-long opportunity for the community to join in uplifting women, as they face housing insecurity and homelessness with increased barriers and fewer resources.
Two generous donors, The Peter Geisert Giving Fund and The William N. and Janice V. Godfrey Family Foundation, are challenging individuals to match their combined $20,000 contribution. Every dollar donated will be matched, up to $20,000, as we work together toward a $50,000 goal. The challenge spans from March 1 to March 8, which is International Women’s Day. During the week-long online fundraising event, CCI is encouraging the community to accept the challenge by making a monetary donation to CCI, which helps stabilize flexible funding for empowering services such as emergency shelter, case management, housing assistance, job training, and life skills programs. Some people may not see emergency shelter as a service that empowers, but you can’t tell that to the woman who stayed with us five years ago and is now operating her own business.
“Supporting women and families with children is more critical now than ever. They are the least visible among our community’s homeless population and far fewer resources are available to enable them to prevent and end their homeless experience. The Cathedral Center needs our community’s support to help us continue our work to bring them inside safely while advocating for long-term change.” said Donna Rongholt-Migan, Executive Director at CCI. “The Empowerment Challenge is one of our most popular annual events, and it’s one that truly helps us connect with the community. We are grateful to partner with our compassionate, generous donors who have contributed $20,000 in challenge funds for this year’s appeal, and we know with donations from the community we will hit our match.”
