Versiti Organ and Tissue, in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation and the Cream City Chapter of the Links, Inc., hosted the second annual KidneyCARE for Community Day on Thursday, April 16 at ThriveOn King in Milwaukee’s historic Bronzeville District. The free event covered the topic of chronic kidney disease (CKD), from prevention and early detection to management and advanced care.
Medical experts provided in-depth information about CKD while attendees were offered free kidney screenings, blood typing and other health resources.
CKD is on the rise in Wisconsin. More than 1,200 people are currently on the waiting list for a new kidney in Wisconsin. The total number of Wisconsinites living with kidney failure has increased by 19% since 2011. In 2025, about 1 in 3 individuals on the kidney transplant waiting list received a transplant. Black Wisconsinites have a higher prevalence of chronic kidney disease compared to their white counterparts, according to America’s Health Rankings.
This event was part of Versiti on King’s ongoing commitment to offer essential resources to foster community wellness and growth. Located within the ThriveOn King development, Versiti on King is an innovative, permanent blood and community resource center located on Milwaukee’s North Side. This event reflects Versiti’s broader mission through its community resource center at ThriveOn King to improve public health and expand access to health care resources.
