In response to recent reports of physical and sexual assault of area youth by caregivers, a community coalition of partners will announce resources available to support youth in healing and adults in preventing and identifying harmful situations.
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) Office of Violence Prevention brought together a coalition of youth development practitioners, sexual assault prevention specialists, and community educators to develop a coordinated intervention focused on training adults who serve youth and conducting trauma-informed healing workshops for youth throughout the community.
Youth sessions will focus on healing and promoting self-advocacy skills, while comprehensive workshops for professionals serving youth will focus on preventing, identifying, and intervening should harmful situations arise between adults and young people in their care.
Agencies interested in receiving training are encouraged to contact the Commission at Milwaukee.gov/staysafe or via email at remoore@milwaukee.gov.
