Tannette Elie, an award-winning journalist with 20 years of print/digital media experience, has been named the new managing editor of NNS.
She succeeds O. Ricardo Pimentel, who retired in September.
Elie serves as vice president of print for the Wisconsin Black Media Association and is a lecturer in communication at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.
She also is the creator and co-host of a soon-to-be launched podcast that will feature the unique stories of successful Black women in Milwaukee.

A seasoned higher education professional, Elie served as communications director and as a journalism lecturer for the University of Wisconsin Parkside for 15 years. In addition, she helped lead Marquette University’s Urban Journalism Workshop from 2015 to 2020.
Elie also spent 20 years as a reporter and business columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where she covered a variety of beats before leaving the paper in 2009.
Elie will join Executive Director Ron Smith in the continuing effort to give Milwaukee the newsroom it deserves and the members of the NNS newsroom the support they need to soar.
“We are at a pivotal stage in the growth and development of NNS,” Smith said. “Our mission has always been not only to inform, but to transform. I am so thankful to have a thought partner who will help us feed the information needs of residents who often are ignored by other news outlets.”
Elie enjoys reading, walking, practicing yoga and spending time with family.
“I believe the best way for journalists to serve communities of color is to elevate the residents of those communities through powerful storytelling,” she said. “I am excited to continue to fulfill that mission at NNS. “
