Four candidates seeking to represent District 7 on the Milwaukee Common Council will participate in a forum on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The forum will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Embassy Center MKE, 3725 N. Sherman Blvd.

All candidates in the district’s primary race are scheduled to attend.

They include Jessica Currie, founder of the nonprofit, Missionary Currie for Women and Children Inc.; Kenneth Hughes, a local business owner; DiAndre Jackson, a former Master Lock employee who is active with United Auto Workers; and Randy Jones, founder of the nonprofit, Staying On Track Inc. and a member of the City of Milwaukee Safety and Civic Commission.

Current District 7 Ald. Khalif Rainey, who has represented the district since 2016, is not seeking re-election.

The forum is being organized by Corridor Neighborhoods Collaborative, a partnership between Sherman Park Community Association, Dominican Center, Amani United, Century City Tri-Angle Neighborhood Association and Northwest Side Community Development Corporation.

District 7 residents will moderate a 45 to 60 minute formal conversation followed by questions from the audience, said Christina Chronister, communications specialist at Dominican Center.

“We anticipate important topics like reckless driving being discussed, but it is an opportunity for residents to see what candidates will bring to the table as an alderperson,” Dominican Center Executive Director Maricha Harris said.

District 7 includes Roosevelt Grove, Sunset Heights, Grasslyn Manor, St. Joseph’s, Sherman Park, Lincoln Creek, Wahl Park and Amani.

The spring primary for local elections is on Tuesday, Feb. 20, with early voting starting Tuesday, Feb. 6. The general election is April 2.
