It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Fourth Annual Martin Drive Neighborhood Summer Game Night: Friday, Sept. 6

The Martin Drive Neighborhood Association will have its fourth annual summer game night at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at 4303 W. Vliet St. You can play games, eat food and watch the Green Bay Packers game on TV. Click here to RSVP.  More information here.

2. $5 Fridays After Work: Friday, Sept. 6

Enjoy entrees, appetizers and drinks for $5 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mi Casa Su Cafe, 1835 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Food and drink specials are offered every Friday, and the event features live music.  More information here. 

3. Milwaukee’s Biggest Free Library: Friday, Sept. 6

Literacy Services of Wisconsin invites all ages to attend a free book event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at Kosciuszko Park, 2201 S. Seventh St. You can choose from hundreds of books and engage in other activities like face painting. More information here. 

4. 2024 Fiesta Selena: Saturday, Sept. 7 

In honor of Latin singer Selena Quintanilla, a fan gathering will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 4511 S. Sixth St. There will be a fashion show, music, art vendors and more. More information here. 

5. Silver City Fest: Saturday, Sept. 7 

VIA Community Development Corp. will host its 13th annual Silver City fest from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 on West National Avenue between South 32nd and 35th streets. The fest is meant to celebrate the diversity and culture within the community with vendors, food and entertainment. More information here. 

Bonus: The Ultimate Heart Race: Saturday, Sept. 14

The Ultimate Heart Race is an annual 5K run and walk that raises awareness about congenital heart disease. The event opens at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, but runners and walkers will begin at 9 a.m. at the American Family Field, 1 Brewers Way. Whether you are participating in-person or virtually, tickets are from $15 to $40. More information here.
