It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. WIABE Back-to-School Social: Friday, Sept. 27

The Wisconsin Association for Bilingual Education, or WIABE, will have a back-to-school social at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at Tres Hermanos Restaurant, 1332 W. Lincoln Ave. All educators are welcome to enjoy an evening of networking, free food and more. More information here.

2. Family Culture Night: Friday, Sept. 27

A family culture night will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, 930 W. Historic Mitchell St. You can engage in a cultural discussion, learn a wild rice recipe and play a Native language game. Dinner will be served. More information here. 

3. Teen Open Mic: Friday, Sept. 27

Grace Weber’s Music Lab starts its eighth season from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at Radio Milwaukee, 220 E. Pittsburgh Ave. This is the chance for teens ages 13 to 18 to participate in an open mic and learn more about the music industry from experienced local artists. More information here.

4. Community Cleanup and Resource Fair: Saturday, Sept. 28 

Lindsay Heights residents can participate in a community cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 28 between North 15th Street and West North Avenue. Afterward, there will be a community resource fair from noon to 2:30 p.m. Free food will be provided. More information here.

5. Center Street Food Truck Festival: Sunday, Sept. 29

Center Street BID #39 will host a food truck festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 between North 35th and West Center streets. Come support local food truck businesses and enjo y a variety of foods. More information here.

Bonus: Girl Scout Day at the Milwaukee County Zoo: Deadline: Sunday, Sept. 29

Girl Scouts, families and troops are invited to join Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast at the Milwaukee County Zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 for a fun-filled, fall kick-off event to celebrate the new Girl Scout year. Enjoy hands-on Girl Scout activities, a tasty treat, visiting your favorite animal friends and more. The deadline for discounted tickets is Sunday, Sept. 29. More information here.
