A new sports court at Silver City Townhomes is now available for the community to use. The townhomes and sports court recently celebrated their grand opening. Construction of 20 rent-to-own townhomes, located at 3507 W. Pierce St., took slightly less than a year. The three- and four-bedroom homes are energy efficient, and topped off by a “green roof,” which will absorb about 200,000 gallons of water each year. The sports court features six basketball hoops and one full-size tennis court.

Raised in a South Side neighborhood where he still lives, Edgar Mendez is the managing editor of the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service. His writing has been published by the Associated Press, Reuters, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other media. He has also co-authored three articles published in scholarly journals.
