A blossom from the gardens at Walnut Way
Born on April 10, 1906 in Georgia and raised in Cincinnati, Harriet Dorsey moved to Milwaukee in the early 1940s. She celebrated her 106th birthday with a public event at the Clinton Rose Center in Harambee where she volunteered for 18 years. She makes her home in Lindsay Heights.
Lindsay Heights is a mega-neighborhood composed of smaller communities. Its point of entry for many visitors is a renovated Victorian home—the headquarters of the Walnut Way Conservation Corp. Those who visit this historic urban neighborhood in summer will see trees laden with peaches, tender vegetables and colorful flowers in gardens extending into the block adjacent to Walnut Way. Lindsay Heights is also home to businesses and assets such as Jake’s Deli, Coffee Makes You Black, Fondy Food Center, Alice’s Garden, House of Peace, and many active church communities.
