The Walker’s Point Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Bradley as Executive Director effective January 1, 2014. Ms. Bradley will succeed Gary Tuma, who has stepped down as of December 31, 2013 after leading the Center for the last 8 years. Gary will continue his relationship with the Center, spending the next few years in part-time service as the WPCA’s first Growth and Development Officer.

These changes conclude a comprehensive succession and strategic plan based on the current needs and future growth of WPCA with input from many stakeholders.

Board President, Lona Long Velasco, said: “Gary has been working in a professional non-profit capacity for 35 years for a variety of organizations from employment equality to disability rights to youth development. The last eight years we have been fortunate to benefit from his tireless efforts to advance the mission of the WPCA. Under Gary Tuma we have purchased a new building, seen membership numbers double, and been voted best gallery in Milwaukee. His commitment to this organization and passion for people will leave a lasting impact on the community.”

“Kate Bradley is an ideal successor to Gary.” Said Ms. Long Velasco, “She has been the Education Director at Walker’s Point Center for the Arts for the last seven years. Kate led the effort to expand WPCA’s SO/HO (Site-On/Hand’s-On) Artist Residency program. Within one year the numbers of underserved youth doubled to over 4,000 students reached through WPCA’s award winning cultural arts curriculum. Last year that number exceeded 10,000 people of all ages served in classes, workshops and performances.”

“With her background in Arts Education, leadership abilities and progressive vision for our Gallery and Education programs, the Board is excited to support Kate as we continue the legacy begun 26 years ago promoting emerging arts and learning in an urban, multicultural environment.”

The Board thanks Gary for his service and is pleased to continue working with him as Growth and Development Officer for the next few years. The WPCA looks forward to Kate’s contributions in 2014 and beyond, and asks members and donors to welcome her to her new role.
