The annual free event will be staged Friday, February 7 from 9 am to Noon at the Clinton Rose Center at 3045 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. The day is sponsored by the Senior Companion Program of the Social Development Commission.
Super Senior Friday will feature more than 20 agencies who work with seniors. SDC programs like Energy Assistance and free tax preparation will also be on hand to help older adults. Workshops on topics including Maximizing Memory, Solving the Insurance Puzzle, and a Social Security Update will be offered at no charge. Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele will deliver opening remarks to seniors gathered.
To use the free tax service, residents will need to bring Social Security or ITIN cards, all 2013 income statements (including Social Security, pension and wage or other income statements), plus a completed signed rent certificate or 2013 property tax bill if they want to apply for Homestead Credit. Energy Assistance applicants must bring proof of income for everyone in the household, Social Security numbers of all household members, and a copy of the heating and electric bills. If heat is included in the rent, bring a rent statement from the landlord that heat is included.
The Senior Companion Program at SDC is funded in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service and the State of Wisconsin.
