A number of high school youth are much more inspired to attend a university following the SDC 2014 Spring College Tour.

Nine young men and women from Youth programs at the Social Development Commission took part in the weeklong trip during Spring Break. That tour included stops at universities in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Ohio. They visited seven colleges including Philadelphia University, Lincoln University, Georgetown, Howard University, West Virginia State, Charleston University and Ohio State.

The college tour participants were able to view a variety of university sizes and settings as well as learn how to apply for admission and financial aid. The group included three high school seniors who took the opportunity to apply to several of the schools during the visits.

The annual visits to institutions of higher learning have been key to inspiring youth at SDC to make attending college a priority. Younger students especially have learned also what they to do in high school to position themselves for success at the next educational level. Those students taking part in this year’s tour are already talking about how to expand the number of young people who will be able to take part in next year’s trip.
