A new season brings a wealth of new opportunities to get involved in the community. The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee features a calendar full of events for volunteers. Here are a few of the opportunities in October.

Community Garden Work Day

Concordia Gardens, 220 E. Concordia Ave., in Harambee features a community garden, fruit orchard and composting site on 1.5 acres of land. Volunteers can come Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to clear the gardens for the fall and prepare the beds for next year’s growing season.

Coats for Kids – Sort & Hang Up

Help children in the winter season by preparing coat donations with The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County. Volunteers hang up the donated coats to make them ready to be distributed. Help is welcome throughout the month of October. Click here to see the full list of volunteering times.

Fall Weed-Out 2015: Kletzsch Park

Improve natural habitat and learn about invasive species with The Park People of Milwaukee County. The group is working on weed control in Kletzsch Park on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
