Jonathon Rodas, 22, moved away from Milwaukee for a year but came back a month ago. Shortly after returning, he was stabbed in a random attack while walking with his mother and sister along South Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. He’s worried that violent attacks like the one he suffered have become more common in Milwaukee recently.

Raised in a South Side neighborhood where he still lives, Edgar Mendez is the managing editor of the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service. His writing has been published by the Associated Press, Reuters, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other media. He has also co-authored three articles published in scholarly journals.
