Give the gift of volunteering during the holidays! Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee features a calendar full of events for volunteers, both one-time and ongoing. Here are a few of the opportunities in December.

Make a Gingerbread House

Prepare materials and help families decorate a gingerbread house, help with snacks and clean up on weekdays and Saturdays through Dec. 19 at various times and Milwaukee Public Library locations.

Holiday Toy Shop

Help sort, stock or distribute 100,000 toys to families at The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County Distribution Center Dec. 10-11, 14-18, and 21, morning or afternoon hours.

Santa’s Helpers Needed

Help people served by Capuchin Community Services select toys, books and clothing as Christmas gifts for their children Dec. 16-23 for two or more hours between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Family Winter Weekend

Assist with family activities at Discovery World such as dog sleds, train rides and creating snowflake pop-ups, talk about the science of snowflakes or monitor foot traffic Dec. 19 and 20 between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Holiday Luncheon

Greet seniors and serve lunch Dec. 23 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.at the Washington Park Senior Center, a service of Interfaith Older Adult Programs.
