Victor Smith has been Andre Lee Ellis’s friend for “a lot of years.” They have sung in the same church choir and worked together on theatrical projects. Smith says he’s been “right there” with Ellis and his We Got This project to improve the lives of young black men.

Smith, an investigator for the Division of Milwaukee Child Protective Services, plans to provide counseling and support at a new drop-in resource center at a house near Ellis’s home for people to talk about what’s on their minds. Smith has worked with at-risk youth and veterans for more than 20 years.
