Nicole Jackson is a volunteer for the Milwaukee Film Festival.

Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee features a calendar full of events for volunteers, both one-time and ongoing. Here are a few of the opportunities in September.

Sexual Assault Hotline

Answer the crisis line and provide information/intervention to victims of sexual trauma for Aurora Healing and Advocacy Services. Training is Sept. 26 – Oct. 7, and a six-month commitment is expected.

Court Appointed Special Advocate

Kids Matter needs voices for children in foster care. Volunteers can advocate for the best interests of a child to ensure the child has a safe, nurturing, permanent home.  Trainings are held on Wednesday evenings and one Saturday from late September to the end of October.

Marquette University International Friendship Program

Enjoy the company of an international student by participating in monthly activities. This is a great opportunity for families. Interested parties should apply by Sept. 15 to the Marquette University – Office Of International Education.

Milwaukee Film Festival

Take tickets, distribute and count ballots, assist at will call and direct people in line for movies at the Milwaukee Film Festival Sept. 28-Oct. 12; various shifts are available. Register here.

Doors Open Milwaukee

Historic Milwaukee seeks volunteers to greet visitors at one of 160 locations throughout metro Milwaukee at Doors Open Milwaukee, Sept. 23–24. Shifts are 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. or 1:30-5:30 p.m. Sign up here.

Lunch  on Tuesdays

Bring and serve bag or hot lunches for 40 women undergoing outpatient substance abuse treatment at Meta House on a Tuesday (11 a.m.-1 p.m.). This is a perfect opportunity for groups of 5 to 8 people.
