More than 3,000 families picked up groceries for a Thanksgiving meal Monday, courtesy of Aurora Family Service. The grocery bags included a 12-pound turkey, stuffing, bread rolls, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, butter and a pan to cook the turkey.
Families signed up through Aurora Family Service, 3200 W. Highland, or partnering community organizations ahead of time to receive the groceries.
This program has been fully funded by local businesses and their employees, as well as individual donors, including Aurora caregivers.
The purpose of the grocery giveaway is to strengthen families by bringing them together to make and share in a holiday meal. This reduces stress over the holidays, creates memories and strengthens bonds.
