The block where Trevis Hardman grew up wasn’t always as safe as it is now. About five years ago, Hardman’s neighbor, Andre Lee Ellis, led an effort to bring the residents of their block together in a community garden.
Hardman said he helped Ellis start his “We Got This” program, which mentors boys and young men and employs them in the garden at the corner of 9th and Ring streets. Together with neighborhood residents, the youth also clean up the area on summer Saturday mornings.
Now 26, Hardman makes his living driving a school bus and operating Dream Outlook Lawn Services, LLC, a business he started when he was 21.
