Volunteers help out at Victory Garden Initiative’s urban farm.

With school out, summer is an ideal time for youth to volunteer. Below are youth volunteer opportunities, both one-time and summer-long. Here are a few opportunities in June and beyond. For more opportunities, see the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee’s brochure.

Farmhand for Urban Farm

Compost food waste, water crops, pull weeds, harvest produce, plant seeds and mulch at Victory Garden Initiative urban farm; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. Families, groups and individuals welcome. Minimum age is 16.

Summer Meal Program

Milwaukee Center for Independence is looking for volunteers to serve meals to children in Milwaukee County Parks during lunch and dinner times weekdays; June 23 through late Aug. Minimum age is 14.

Child Care Assistant

Engage children ages infant to 12 years old in play, games and art projects and assist with lunch at St. Ann Center For Intergenerational Care – Bucyrus Campus; Mondays-Fridays with various shifts. Minimum age is 13.

Make a Difference with Older Adults this Summer

Assist with art & crafts, play bingo, sing songs, visit with and prepare lunch weekdays for seniors and people with disabilities at Catholic Charities Adult Day Center. Minimum age is 16.

Summer Morning Tutoring/Afternoon Recreation

Provide one on one word tutoring, lead reading groups and help with class projects morning or assist with recreation activities, arts and crafts and field trips afternoons at Milwaukee Academy of Science. Minimum age is 16.

Food Sorting to Solve Hunger

Sort fresh produce donated from grocery stores and farmers for Feeding American Eastern Wisconsin; mostly weekdays, 9 a.m.-noon or 1:00-4 p.m. Groups and individuals welcome. Click here to sign up. Minimum age is 14.

Help Kids Celebrate at our Super Reader Squad Party

Assist with activity stations and encourage children to sign up for the Milwaukee Public Library’s summer reading challenge Saturday, June 16 at Central Branch. Minimum age is 16.
