Alderwoman Chantia Lewis has POSTPONED a 9th District community meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 31 regarding a proposed State Juvenile Offender Facility at N 73rd St. and W. Mill Rd. and a proposed secure care center for youth at N. 62nd St. and W. Mill Rd. because of forecasted inclement (dangerously cold) weather.

The meeting had been scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Direct Supply, 6663 N. Industrial Rd. Alderwoman Lewis has indicated she will work to reschedule the community meeting and will notify constituents when a new date, time and location are secured.

Regarding the 73rd and Mill Rd. facility: As part of Act 185, the State has mandated that the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake juvenile offender facilities close by January 2021. Additionally, Milwaukee County is planning a new secure care center for youth with less- severe offenses, with at least one location in the 9th District under consideration at N. 62nd St. and W. Mill Rd.
