NNS reporter Andrea Waxman recently sat down with Lake Effect’s Mitch Teich on WUWM to talk about the Zilber Neighborhood Initiative (ZNI), which recently drew to a close. The 10-year initiative was intended to improve the quality of life in Lindsay Heights, Clarke Square and the Layton Boulevard West neighborhoods of Silver City, Burnham Park and Layton Park.
The two talked about the impact ZNI had on the neighborhoods — particularly the biggest projects: the Innovations and Wellness Center on North Avenue, the Journey House/Longfellow School campus and the LBWN’s Turnkey Homes project. They also discussed the challenges caused by deindustrialization, the foreclosure crisis and the recession.
Lake Effect airs daily on WUWM 89.7.
