“Walking to school is an easy way to be healthy, reduce pollution, and helps kids arrive ready to learn. Getting morning exercise has proven to increase school performance.” says Jake Newborn, Programs Director the Wisconsin Bike Fed.
This event is a kick off for Zablocki’s Walking School Bus, similar to Lincoln Ave Community School’s successful program.
“The walking school bus is a perfect example of what community schools do,” Ryan Hurley, the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership director at United Way says. “They engage the community to ask, ‘What are the challenges? What are the barriers to student success? How do we all come together to organize and address those challenges?’”
Since it is still winter in Wisconsin in March each student who walks will receive a custom Winter Walk Club neon blue knit hat!
7:15-7:35 AM students arrive. Zablocki Community School, 1016 W Oklahoma Ave, Milwaukee
