A groundbreaking took place Tuesday, April 30 for the MKE Urban Stables. Organizers say it will be the first facility in the nation to combine mounted patrol, equine-assisted therapy and community engagement programs.
The $5.65 million project at 143 E. Lincoln Ave. is expected to open in January 2020 and will serve as the new home for the Milwaukee Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit.
Veterans and special needs students from MPS will be able to groom and walk the horses. Hamilton High School’s Color Guard was one of the highlights of the ceremony.
