1. Film Screening: “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA”: Friday, Aug. 9 

The Big Picture and Brave New Films will be screening “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA” at Bethel-Bethany United Church of Christ, 2878 N. 54th St., on Friday, Aug. 9. The film is being viewed in light of the recent mass shootings. It tells the story of the gun manufacturing industry. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the film will start at 6:30 p.m. There will be a discussion after the film. 

2. Women in the trades information session: Saturday, Aug. 10 

WRTP/BIG Step, 3841 W. Wisconsin Ave., along with groups such as empowHER, is hosting an informational session titled “Women in the Trades” on Saturday, Aug. 10. The event includes networking opportunities, hands-on experience, industry presentations and more. The event goes from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. To register call (414) 342-9787 or click here.

3. Community visioning session: Saturday, Aug. 10 

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the Medical College of Wisconsin are inviting community members from Halyard Park, Harambee and Brewers Hill to join them on a visioning session at the Sojourner Family Peace Center, 619 W. Walnut St., on Saturday, Aug. 10. The group will be discussing the restoration and redevelopment of a historic building on North Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The sessions will start at 9 a.m. and go to noon. Residents can RSVP to attend.  

4. West Vliet Street sidewalk sale: Saturday, Aug. 10 

Businesses on West Vliet Street are clearing out their inventory during the West Vliet Street sidewalk sale on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the local businesses, there will also be pop-up shops, food trucks and more.  

5. Rahyma’s pop-up shop: Saturday, Aug. 10 

Rahyma, a Nigerian designer who creates authentic African clothing, will be opening a pop-up shop at the Hyatt Regency, 333 W. Kilbourn Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 10. There will be dresses, skirts, jumpsuits and more available for purchase. Tickets are free. The event starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m.  

Bonus: Cory Booker at the Sherman Phoenix: Sunday, Aug. 11 

Cory Booker is making a stop in Milwaukee while on the road during his presidential campaign. Booker will be at the Sherman Phoenix, 3536 W. Fond Du Lac Ave., on Sunday, Aug. 11. Click here for tickets. Doors open at 2 p.m.
