1. Take Root Milwaukee’s free homeownership fair: Saturday, Aug. 24

Take Root Milwaukee is hosting a free homeownership fair on Saturday, Aug. 24. The event is scheduled to take place at Bradley Tech High School, 700 S. 4th St., from 8 a.m. to noon. Lenders, neighborhood organizations, homeownership specialists, realtors and more will be on hand to talk.  

2. Community Coffee and Conversation with William Rogers: Saturday, Aug. 24 

Impact Coalition for Families is hosting Community Coffee and Conversation at Wake-Up Program, 3353 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, on Saturday, Aug. 24. William Rogers, a retired lecturer from UWM and host of Black Reality Think Tank Radio, will be the guest. Tickets are free and can obtained here. The event will start at 10 a.m.  

3. Academia Bembé summer recital: Saturday, Aug. 24 

Academia Bembé’s summer recital will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24. The recital, which features student drummers and dancers, is being held at Escuela Verde Milwaukee, 3628 W. Pierce St. The performance will include pieces from West Africa, Brazil and Puerto Rico. It starts at 11:30 a.m. Doors open at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $5. 

4. Back 2 School block party with Heal the Hood: Saturday, Aug. 24 

Heal the Hood is hosting a Back 2 School block party at Peak Initiative, 2480 W. Cherry St., on Saturday, Aug. 24. There will be free food, vendors, free book bags and performances by Hands in Harmony, the Milwaukee Flyers Tumbling Team and more. The party starts at noon.  

5. Community barbeque in Lincoln Park: Saturday, Aug. 24 

414 Milwaukee Mil Town, a local nonprofit, is hosting a barbeque in Lincoln Park, 1301 W. Hampton Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 24. Everyone is welcome to join and can bring a dish or donation if desired. The BBQ starts at 2:30 p.m.   

Bonus: Alice’s Garden at Sherman Phoenix: Friday, Aug. 23 

Alice’s Garden will be hosting a marketplace at Sherman Phoenix, 3536 W. Fond Du Lac Ave., on Friday, Aug. 23. There will be collards, kale, fresh herbs and peppers available for purchase. Alice’s Garden will be at the Phoenix from noon to 4 p.m.
