  • White proudly takes down a photo of his parents and A&C's founders, Acie and Carrie, next to a mounted trophy bluegill.
  • Greg White is an avid fisherman and a local business owner who supports anglers in Milwaukee.
  • Pictured are the first dollar earned by the bait shop, along with a faded snapshot from 1969 depicting how the shop began — as a live bait stand at the Milwaukee Harbor.
  • Continuing the spirit of fishing and the American dream, Greg grips the frame of his parents.

If you’ve ever driven through the Harambee neighborhood on Center Street, you may have wondered about the 24-hour bait shop. While it’s been years since it’s kept those hours, A & C Live Bait is alive and well, celebrating 50 years of business this year.

Greg White currently runs the shop, taking over the business from his parents, Acie and Carrie White, the namesakes of A & C. They moved from Mississippi to Milwaukee and opened a self-caught live bait shop in 1969.

While the business has evolved over the years, A & C is the oldest bait and tackle shop in the state of Wisconsin and remains the only black owned bait and tackle shop in the Midwest.
