5 things to know this week in Milwaukee: Dec. 23 to Dec. 28

It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some events we think you shouldn’t miss. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please email info@milwaukeenns.org and put “5 things” in the subject line by noon Thursday

1. Cookie decorating at the library: Monday, Dec. 23
The Milwaukee Public Library is hosting a holiday cookie decorating party from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23. All the supplies, including the frosting and sprinkles, will be provided. The decorating will take place at the Capitol Street location, 3969 N. 74th St.

2. The Domes holiday garden show: Monday, Dec. 23

The Mitchell Park Domes, 524 S. Layton Blvd., is celebrating the holiday season. Check out the holiday garden show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23. There will be classic lights, ornaments, decorations and more. The show is included with regular admission.

3. Yoga practice Christmas Eve and Day: Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25

Embody Yoga is offering yoga practice from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24 and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25. All levels are welcome but pre-registration is required. Click here to sign up. Embody Yoga is located on the third floor of the Sherman Phoenix, 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave.

4. Kwanzaa opening ceremonies: Thursday, Dec. 26

The Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center St., will be celebrating Kwanzaa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26. The event is free and open to the public. During the celebration, community members will provide updates on community developments. There also will be entertainment and vendors.

5. Praise music at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church: Friday, Dec. 27

The Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 2829 N. Teutonia Ave., will be singing praises from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27. Anyone is invited to listen to the music and ugly sweaters are encouraged.

Bonus: First time homeowners seminar: Saturday, Dec. 28

The Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, 5460 N. 64th St., is offering a free seminar to those interested in becoming homeowners. The seminar will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 28. It will go over the minimum requirements needed to purchase a home. The event is free and tickets can be found here.
