1. Friday night music at Sherman Perk: Friday, Jan. 31

Sherman Perk Coffee Shop, 4924 W. Roosevelt Drive, will have a live musical performance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. Starting at 7 p.m., the group, String Theory, will take the stage. String Theory features a duo known for making music on their acoustic guitars.

2. MPS kindergarten enrollment fair: Saturday, Feb. 1

Milwaukee Public Schools is hosting a kindergarten enrollment fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 1. The fair will take place at Milwaukee High School of the Arts, 2300 W. Highland Ave. Families can learn about the programs that Milwaukee Public School offers such as the free preschool option, Head Start as well as available kindergarten programs. 3. Peak Initiative youth leadership series: Saturday, Feb. 1

Peak Initiative is hosting a youth leadership series with a focus on healthy relationships. The workshop will take place at the Marquette University Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. The series is for youths ages 13 to 21 who are interested in networking, building personal and professional development skills and becoming strong community leaders. To register, click here.

4. Jam Ak Jam performance: Saturday, Feb. 1

In honor of Black History Month, the Milwaukee Art Museum, 700 N. Art Museum Drive, will be featuring Haitian art and special performances every Saturday. Jam Ak Jam will be performing from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. The performance is a part of Kohl’s Art Generation Lab. Following the performance, there will be a tour of Haitian art. The Ko-Thi Dance Company, Kantara Souffrant and other groups will be performing in the weeks to come.

5. Black History Month kickoff: Saturday, Feb. 1

Vibez Creative Arts Space, 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave., is hosting a Black History Month kickoff from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. As part of the kickoff, there will be a gallery night and the theme is all things black and Black History Month. Local artists will be featured. Tickets are free.

Bonus: Walker’s Lounge Sunday brunch: Sunday, Feb. 2

Walker’s Lounge, 626 S. 5th St., is offering brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. Walkers Lounge offers classic brunch items with a Latin-infused twist.
